In the world of Mobile OS, Google is perhaps still perceived as being a lightweight in the competition. However, with an avalanche of devices supporting Android to be released within the next few months, software developers have eagerly anticipated a massive market for Android apps, and have developed a staggering catalogue of applications for the Mobile Operating System.

According to Androlib, an Android App Archive Access portal, there are more than 10,000 applications for Android at this point in time. However, the Apps store for Apple has more than 7 times the amount. Like Apple however, most of Android’s apps are free, as evidenced by this pie chart.

However, it’s likely that there are more than 10,000 apps for Android that have been developed. But based on Androlib’s raw figures alone, it seems that the App store has grown more than

440% over the course of four months. Priced application support is now online global, and Analysts are eagerly anticipating the launch of Android, perhaps being the OS that killed the iPhone..?
