AT&T has issued a press release today announcing that MMS will become active for iPhone users on September 25.

“We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.”

It seems that AT&T are addressing the immense amount of MMS traffic that they receive

daily, by delaying MMS on the iPhone for at least a few years. But according to this news, AT&T have responded to the challenge, and as a result, have updated their infrastructure, and are now offering MMS for the iPhone.

From an earlier announcement in June, it’s been reported that there will be no additional costs for MMS messaging, for users on the iPhone text messaging plan.

With MMS being offered by AT&T ahead of the anticipated September 9th Apple Conference, the long wait for MMS messaging is now over.
