Marvel/Disney Confirmed

In a very unprecedented mvoe today, Marvel Comics has been taken over by the entertainment giant that is Disney. The takeover cost was expected to be around 3bn dollars, with each share in Marvel comics estimated to be around $50.  With the merger all but completed on paper (All that’s needed is the approval of Marvel shareholders), there are many implications that this merger will bring for both companies.

Perhaps, two of the most powerful entertainment companies have merged together, and the implications of this merger will surely be groundbreaking at the most, or disturbing at the least. Currently, it’s known that the deal with Disney will not affect Marvels current deals of Movie production with Paramount Studios, and Game development with Activision. Disney has expressed interest in the acquiring of movie rights to Marvel ideas in the medium term.

Deals for Fox’s Fantastic Four, Sony’s Spider-Man and Paramount’s Iron Man won’t be affected in the short term but according to Disney representatives, “it would be clearly be more attractive to us if, over time, we became the sole distributor of these films.” Still, added Iger, “If it’s not broke…

The more immediate effects of the merger could be seen as soon as a few months, with a greater presence of Marvel related characters at Universal World, and perhaps, Marvel characters within the Squaresoft/Disney game; Kingdom Hearts.

The most important news about this merger, is that Marvel comics will retain it’s name, much like Pixar, and will still continue it’s comics, and provide a ‘House of Ideas’ to a ‘Magical Kingdom’. The merger with Disney will also enable Marvel to be able to have a greater range of resources at it’s disposal. Already, talks between Marvel and Pixar have begun, with high level executives talking to each other, considering all possible ideas.

There could be a horrific amount of carnage resulting from this Merger though. Primarily, and most disturbing on my list is Hannah Montana appearing in Spider-Man, as a hostage or something. Although, it would be fairly entertaining if Spider-Man politely decided not to notice. Next on my list of disturbing imagery is The Avengers incorporating characters from Disney… Like, Donald Duck casting Fira on Doctor Doom. I could continue on ranting, but really, I think I’m done playing out the horrors in my mind.
