How To Manually Upgrade Your G1 with Android 1.5 Cupcake

Now you can manually download and upgrade your G1 with Android 1.5 Cupcake which you should receive over OTA. Here is the step by step tutorial on how to do it. I did it my self and took also pictures to prove it!

Before you do anything I want to let you know that I am not responsible if anything happens (I have to say that to cover my A$$).

This is the real Cupcake for USA customers. U will not get prompted for Android 1.5 OTA (over the air)

First download the file to your PC or MAC

https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip

Than rename the file to Update.zip

Copy the file to your SD card root (don’t need to format it I didn’t at least)

Shut down your G1

Hit power button once (red button)

and hold the HOME button.

You should get an Triangle (this sign freaked me out lol)

On your keyboard Press Alt+L and than Alt+S

G1 should find the Update.zip file and start upgrading.

Upgrade takes about 10 minutes.
