Um. If you look at Apple's shareholder reports, they spend about 2.6x what Microsoft does on advertising. "Advertising" doesn't just mean TV commercials, you know.

Microsoft has a far larger installed user base. They really aren't "afraid" - to use an anthropomorphic term - of Apple. Granted, the goal of any company is infinate expansion, but with the business sector pretty much locked down (When was the last time you applied for a job that didn't require you to know at least one MS program?) I don't think Microsoft has to spend nearly the amount of cash "educating" the consumer as Apple does.

Further, Apple is Apple. If you buy an Apple, better get comfy in the Apple store, because that's generally where you'll be going for anything your computer needs. With a PC, you can pop in to any Best Buy or Fry's and have at it. I've seen a few Best Buy's now selling Apple products, but from talking to the Geek Squad, they are loathe to actually do any work on them.

Face it - WinTel is a much larger and more established animal than Mac, no question about it. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

No they don't
They rarely make TV commercials nowadays.
But for Microsoft, most of the commercials I see are about Microsoft.
Sorry about being mean like that
Sometimes I get in quite a temper.

Who says the HP will crash? You ever used a PC, or are you just spouting the stuff that the Apple commercials told you? Viruses can be easily avoided by either NOT irresponsibly downloading questionable programs, or by using a free antivirus program like AVG.

Congrats, Apple sends you software updates. And OS updates. At $129 a pop. They come out far more often than Windows. Service Packs are free. So you're spending a lot more money.

Personalization? Are you serious? Ever heard of Object Desktop? Mac OS X doesn't have an equivalent. And the Windows software is just more comrprehensive.

Maybe Macs are more stable, but I don't think it's worth spending triple the money for stability when you could just get Linux instead.

Too bad the $699 HP will crash, be affected with a virus, and have microsoft Vista complications all within a year! $699 better spent on your car payment!

I have a mac mini for 4 years now, it runs like new, or even better. Apple sends software updates, keeps it krispy clean for me, and I can download application to make my mini more personalized. Does microsoft compare? A Mac is worth every dollar spent.

These idiots at Microsoft REALLY need to suck it up.
Macs are better.
Microsoft wastes their money on stupid ads instead of actually improving the OS.
Period. No further explanations for it is clearly noticeable.

Really, get a job so you can get a computer that's worth it! (that's to Lauren and everyone else who thinks they're expensive)

What money Lauren saves on her PC will be spent shortly after when she has to have her third rate PC with a Windows OS fixed. Microsoft should build their OS right the first time.
