Ok, I’ve finally figured this out. This HAS to be done on a PC. I’ve tried it a million and a half times on a mac. And it doesn’t work.

Ok, first if you’ve upgraded to 3.0 and you’re stuck -
1 – find a pc you can use
2 – plug your iphone into the computer via usb
3 – turn the iphone off
4 – put into DFU mode by holding down home and power for 10 seconds exactly, then release power and keep holding home until your pc starts making some noises. it might say down at the bottom of the screen, llike new hardware, apple iphone DFU, something like that. you know you’ve put into DFU mode correctly when the iphone looks like its off, and in itunes, all it should say is iphone in recovery mode. and the only thing you should see is iPhone. everything else should say n/a.
5 – make sure you’ve downloaded the iphone software 2.2. shift click on restore, go find the 2.2 ipsw file and click open.
6 – itunes should say its restoring blah blah blah. it should come back with an error code of 1013. this is what you want. (if you get a 1604 code or something like that, go back and redo the whole thing over again, you havent gotten it into dfu correctly)
7 – make sure you’ve downloaded quickpwn. close itunes after the error code. open up quickpwn 2.2.5. ou should get a message asking you to reset the iphone by holding down the power and home buttons for 15 seconds, then release home and continue holding power for 2 more seconds. do so. once you’ve done that, dont jailbreak it. it won’t work. open up itunes, and your iphone should be activated.
8- dont upgrade to 2.2.1, it will go back to the plug into itunes symbol. just wait 8 days until iphone 3.0 is released and upgrade to that.

if you’ve tried downgrading to 2.2, or 2.2.1 you are going to have to re upgrade to 3.0 to follow the above steps. make sure you put into dfu to upgrade to 3.0.

for all you people who are confused what he is saying, basically you want to restore back to 2.2.1, after u get that error message, open quickpwn and it'll say hold power to reset phone. do that, but dont click the arrow to continue quickpwn. go back to itunes it will ask u to activate phone.

u should see ur carrier now.

Hopefully someone could help me out. I updated a friend's phone to 3.0. I got put on someone's development account, and everything worked fine. He could make and receive calls, text messages, everything. The one problem he is having is that he can't download anything from the appstore. He can select an app, download it, but when the screen goes to the home screen to start the download, it says waiting for a few seconds and than it disappears. Can anyone lease help

CAUTION to all of you thinking about the beta 2. The beta 2 upgrades your baseband even further than the original beta did, therefore rendering a rollback to 2.2.1 impossible. (At least I havent found a way) If anyone can figure out how to rollback to 2.2.1 on an iphone 3g and still have cell service please let me know, I am in desperate need of help. Thanks.

Finally fixed my “Error 21″ problem… If you are getting “Error 21″, then the problem is that you are ending up in Recovery Mode and not in DFU Mode. See here:

Not sure if you can get into DFU Mode directly once your iPhone is in recovery mode, but what did work for me was to do a normal restore (to 3.0), then put the phone in DFU mode, then follow the instructions to downgrade to 2.2. Be sure to confirm you end up in DFU mode this time.

just wanted to say, if you get an error like 1604, 1602 or 1601 then it is due to you not going into DFU mode correctly. The timing has to be EXACTLY how, for example, J’s and Danny’s methods say. You should be getting an error message of 1302 or something similar, but thats ok.

I’m a registered iPhone Developer and had a 2G jailbroken activated iPhone with 2.2.1. I downloaded 3.0 beta but option clicked Restore instead of Update. I then tried downgrading to several firmwares (2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2) but the connect to iTunes screen appears, and QuickPwn doesn’t recognize the device.

Hey guys so I followed all of the steps everyone mentioned and kept hitting a wall too…I was panicing. I’ve spent like four hours so far doing this. SOmehow though it worked. Instead of holding the power and home button (bc it usually jus brought me back to the connect to itunes screen) i just held the power button for the 15 seconds and somehow it worked and then i quickpwned it and it jailbroken again …so all seems fine hopefully…lets pray lol

i have tried *several* methods and this one finally worked, i am breathing again.

i reckon the difference in this one is step 3 which was not included in any of the [many] other sure-fire methods i tried -

‘3) Reset iPhone by holding Home and Power for 15 seconds, release and hold Power for 2 seconds (it does not matter if your phone comes back on after 13 seconds, hold it for *15*)

i got the phone back at this point as well.

BTW…done on PC

Hey Mac guys if it gives you a 2001 error when you try to go to DFU mode, you probably have the 10.5.6 update of Leopard. It does something weird to the USB ports. Try connecting via a USB hub.

What are you supposed to do after getting the 1013 error (after which the iPhone is put in recovery mode)? I tried resetting the iPhone several times, but it still rebooted in recovery mode. No recognition by QuickPwn! Actually, how is the reset thingy? You hold Home and Power button for 15 secs and then you should release both of them? I’m not sure why it isn’t working, I would attempt to reset the phone on a PC, by this I don’t mean go through the whole downgrade, simply plug your phone into a PC and hold the power and home buttons together for 15 seconds. After that your phone should exit out of the itunes connect screen.

Yup I managed to downgrade it to 2.2.1 with 1013 error, but strange thing is right after i did it the phone restarts by itself and the screen that asks you to connect the phone to itunes pops up, and quickpwn doesn’t recognize it at all. I just want to release a brief notice, i managed to downgrade my baseband too so I do have a carrier again.. my IPhone is downgraded… YES woah big relief!

Follow the instructions, after you restore back to 2.2.1 you will be told to reset the IPhone (power + home 15 secs then power 2 secs one.. ) by quickpwn..

Now heres the catch!!!!!!
AFTER you reset the iphone it will ask to be activated (DONT DO QUICKPWN YET!!!) restart itunes and activate your iphone and see what happens! YES you have a SIGNAL… now your free to jailbreak it

Good luck just wanted to say this, as it whas a pain for me to find this out…

Ok I got back to 2.21 but cant get to connect, wrong baseband Im guessing, cant install yellowsnow because no network to download it through cydia from.

So whats the solution? Pay someone the $10 or w/e on paypal for 3.0 activation? Gonna take me atleast 3 days to get cash on my paypal acc so anything else would be a help

Just call and ask AT&T to put mms on your phone. It was very simple for me, I had it done the first day 3.0 came out. Before they were stupid & said “no” many times. This time they said “ok” and with in five minutes I had the mms turned on for my iPhone 3G. It needs the 3.0 firmware to work correctly. I use another mms application and it works sometimes.

Restore iphone from 3.0 to 2.2.1 on iPhone 3G
Borrowed steps from J. The best way to downgrade with Windows. This worked for me, and it should work for everyone else.

Files/Programs Required: Windows Vista or XP; iTunes (latest version);
iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw; Quick Pwn 2.2.5-2 & Quick Pwn 2.2.5-2

1. Put your iPhone in DFU mode

2. Open Up iTunes

3. Have Your iPhone Connected To Your Pc

4. Hold Down The Power/Sleep Button And The Home Button For Exactly 10 Seconds.

5. Then Release The Power/Sleep Button And Continue To Hold The Home Button Until your In DFU Mode.

6. Click Ok Or Whatever It Is So That It Closes That Popup.

7. Hold Shift Then Click Restore.

8. Then Make sure You Have Downloaded the ISPW Firmware Called:

iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore (the iPhone 3G v 2.21)

and select this file.

9. You’ll go through the motions, once the restore is finished, it will eventually give you a 1013 error or something simular. (That’s fine)

10. DO NOT disconnect your iphone/usb cable. Just Close iTunes.

11. Open Quick Pwn 2.2.5-2

12. Follow the Instructions it gives you; and select

iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw as your source file, and let it install the
firmware to your iPhone 3G.

13. Once it’s complete, close Quick Pwn 2.2.5-2

14. open Quick Pwn 2.1

15. With You iPhone Connected To Your PC And It will then Say That You Need To Hold
The Power/Sleep Button And The Home button For Exactly 15 Seconds Then Release The Power/Sleep Button And
Continue To Hold The Home Button For 2 Seconds. This will boot your iPhone.

16. Click the Next Arrow Button.

17. While, quickpwn is still open; go ahead and open iTunes back up. It should automatically tell you do you want to update the Carrier Firmware (or something like that) ACCEPT AND UPDATE it.

18. Now you’ll be able to reboot from a previous backup or set up as a new phone. You should have carrier coverage, and full bars with the latest firmware!

J’s way works… to a point. His method is the only one that has somewhat worked. I’m able to get it to restore my 3G iPhone from the iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77; and the phone works, carrier, signal bars, etc. But When I try to upgrade it to the latest firmware 2.21; it gives me 16 something error. And If I try to restore from the latest firmware that is created from pwnage, it takes me back to square one; A downgraded 2.21 with no reception no carrier. HELP!! Ideas… Suggestions?? I followed “J’s” instructions to the tee.

Hopefully it was somebody you know, and not just somebody that posted telling you to pay the $10 and they would add you. I don’t know the process as I don’t have a paid dev account however i would assume it should be instantaneous. The paid dev account activation does take time to create because Apple has to review it but I don’t think the UUID linking takes time, whoever said they added you may not have added you, or they may not even have an account, or I could be completely wrong and have no idea what I’m talking about and it may take a day or two to go through. Hope that helps a bit, but try reading up on apple’s dev site. Cheers.

For all of those with carrier issues, if you don’t know why that’s happening its because 3.0 updated your baseband, which you cannot change, at least I thought so. I’m posting a link from my iDisk for a custom restore that i created with pwnage tool, this ipsw does not include cydia, or installer, and does not activate your phone, but from what I’ve heard, it is possible to get your baseband down using a custom restore. Try it out and let me know if it works for you or not as I had no need to actually test it myself.
For all of you with a PC please attempt “J’s” method above, for some reason it’s a lot easier to do the whole restore on a PC than a Mac. Anyway, good luck to you all.

Still can’t get QuickPWN to recognize my iPhone 3G on my Mac 10.5.6 (with 10.5.5 IOUSB). I’ve done the steps exactly but yea… Looks like only 3.0 will run on this unit (and not too well).

Anyone else got any ideas on how to get QuickPWN to recognize my iPhone? Or, even get 2.2.1 installed and working?

Restore iphone from 3.0 to 2.2.1
Put your iPhone in DFU mode
1. Open Up iTunes
2. Have Your iPhone Connected To Your Pc
3. Hold Down The Power/Sleep Button And The Home Button For Exactly 10 Seconds.
4. Then Release The Power/Sleep Button And Continue To Hold The Home Button Until iTunes Brings Up A Message Saying Your iPhone Is In DFU Mode.
5. Click Ok Or Whatever It Is So That It Closes That Popup.
6. Hold Shift Then Click Restore.
7.Then Make sure You Have Downloaded the ISPW Firmware Called: iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore. (MAKE SURE ITS iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore AND NOT iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore CAUSE THAT FOR THE 2G IPHONE).
8. Let It Restore Once Its Finished You Will Get An Error Thats Normal It Will Most Likely Be 1015 Or Something Like That.
9. Download Quick Pwn 2.2.1.
*These steps are very important!
10. Then Open Up Quick Pwn With You iPhone Connected To Your PC And It will then Say That You Need To Hold The Power/Sleep Button And The Home button For Exactly 15 Seconds Then Release The Power/Sleep Button And Continue To Hold The Home Button For 2 Seconds. This will boot your iPhone To the Emergency Call screen.
11.Open up iTunes And Let It Activate Your iPhone.
12. Then Restore your iPhone From A Previous Backup If you Have One.

Hi I Cant downgrade back to 2.2.1 on an ipod touch 1st Gen. I didn’t think there would be an issue as it didn’t with 2.0 and there is no baseband in a touch.

@Wesley, I’ve tested my instructions on windows xp and was able to get my phone back, please attempt it again from scratch, ie. 3.0. Email me with your results.

@JR, out of curiosity, if you’re running 10.5.6, have you downgraded the IOUSB to allow DFU mode? Also do you have a Windows computer around you that you could connect to?

I did but QuickPWN won’t even recognize it. It just sits there with my iPhone in the “Connect to iTunes” mode.

Before you start any of this make sure your iPhone is still in 3.0, if you downgraded it and can’t get it back to 2.2.1, UPGRADE IT AGAIN then do this. It’s tedious but it worked for me and hopefully with some luck it will work for you.
1) iPhone must be in O.S. 3.0 *IMPORTANT*
1) Enter DFU mode with the iPhone
2) Restore to 2.2.1, and receive Error 1013, or something similar, its fine, your phone is in 2.2.1 so move on.
3) Reset iPhone by holding Home and Power for 15 seconds, release and hold Power for 2 seconds (it does not matter if your phone comes back on after 13 seconds, hold it for *15*)
*NOTE* at this point I was actually able to access my phone without jailbreaking it *NOTE*
4) Open QuickPWN, enter DFU and let QuickPWN do all the work.
5) Be glad you still have an iPhone and not a brick =)
If this doesn’t work for you, post and let me know if you’re using Mac or Windows, I think that might have something to do with step 3), but I’m not sure.

@ hojo you need to actually reset the iphone after you have updated it. Before you do anything try updating to 3.0 again, then follow my steps again and be sure to close itunes and quickpwn after you have downgraded and before you reset the phone. Make sure to RESET the phone, that is probably the most important part because quickpwn will not see it.

guys please help, I did every thing in details and am keep getting the error 1013 but that’s it, it’s keep sitting on the plug into itunes screen, and quickpwn doesn?t see it and I’ve tried 2 million times, but no use, so that’s how I lost my iphone?

Live Crunch I did the downrestore and it gave the 1013 error. It is now sitting on the plug into itunes screen, and quickpwn doesn?t see it, any ideas?
