Tech Bloggers WTF is Wrong With You?

by Live Crunch on November 13, 2008

Looking up my 1000 RSS Post Feeds and about 20% of them have at least 1 time keyword: “iPhone”. And nobody is talking about T-mobile G1 with Android OS. What? Is G1 not good enough for you to write about? It’s weird how products like G1 is advertised less by every tech blogger then iPhone. Yes iPhone might be the first touch screen phone killer but there is always something better! Same thing with BlackBerry Storm, they write about it once or twice and thats about it. Go ahead and lookup keyword: iPhone for past month and compare to BlackBerry Storm or T-Mobile G1. iPhone still leads by at least 4 to 1 posts.

Sometimes I wonder what can they else write about iPhone?

Now that I think, you can really blame Bloggers (writers) for economy!
Because they write just about certain things and those certain things get promoted while others die-out due to publicity.

Same thing with media, they rather roll 24/7 videos how Paris Hilton is going to Jail than what is actually happening in World.

What I am trying to say here is that tech bloggers sometimes just write about 1 thing more and that get’s copied about 310235 times over and over again.  Same thing with startups, people invest time and money and just because Top Blogs did not like it or did not want to write about it, they most likely die-out due to finances.

  • Yea, all this iPhone hype is just ridiculous. I can't stand the system, if only because it uses iTunes. That's what the non-mainstream media is for usually, but even the blogs are failing when it comes to going beyond the iPhone.
  • We're all broke after purchasing out iPhones!

Here you go, here is a story about jail breaking the android phone, not all tech bloggers are yacking about IPhones all the time. :-)

  • The G1 looks like the old Palm Pilot with worse manufacturing tolerances. Ew.
  • On the Apple iPhone vs Google G1:

IMHO Apple is more of a religion than company. Google is close but not to same level as Apple. And the G1 doesn't excite to the level that Apple.

On why bloggers act more as thermometers rather than thermostats:

I think the response to focus on one or two products is completely natural and efficient- there are so many companies out there (how many twitter copycats are there out there, too many) and in the end economics can't support all of them, particularly when the key to their success is realized when they develop critical mass and put the other co's out of business (refer to what happened to search engines 10 yrs ago, automobiles 100 yrs ago, etc).

Ugh. Once again, someone who is telling us that the media would rather talk about Paris than something happening in Paris. You know what, it's just not true. I work in TV and not everything is "OMFG What did Paris do today." There's a time and place for stuff like that, like a 4 hour long morning show which needs stuff like that to act as filler material, but I challenge you, sit down and watch an evening newscast on one of your local stations... As long as you're not sitting in LA, you'll probably see real news for 99% of the show.
  • Unfortunately, it seems that the natural evolution of informational media is to beat dead horses, because it is what attracts readers. Fundamentally, I think it is simply driven by economics. The vast majority of tech bloggers are seeking quick ways to drive traffic. To do that they just blog about popular gadgets and sites, even if there are better alternatives out there.
  • I'm not a tech blogger per se, but I did post about the G1. Here is my T-Mobile G1 review, or should I call it "preview." Thanks.
  • I know what you are saying. Feel the same when I'm checking my RSS feeds. Everybody seems to be rehashing the same content over and over. And frankly I am sick of it too. If you like something you can write it up on twitter or social bookmark it, but just ripping some content and posting it on your blog is not the way to go. Put your thinking hat on and get creative or die.
