Obama vs McCain: Social Media

The days are getting closer for surely an election that will go down in the books as one of the all time greats…or worst depending on how you look at it of course. Unlike the previous elections this one has taken hold of social media techniques and doesn’t plan on letting go until Nov 5th.

As of today on Twitter:

Then of course LiveCrunch just posted a blog about Barack’s new Iphone App.

However Advertising Age recently published an article on how McCain’s crew has been focused on more search.:

Mr. McCain appears to be reaping the most benefit from search. He is aggressively buying Obama and Biden’s keywords as well as issues such as “Iraq surge” and “mortgage crisis.” As a result, paid search is a huge driver of his online traffic. According to data from Compete, 22% of Mr. McCain’s traffic in August came from paid search; only 14% of Mr. Obama’s traffic came from paid search.

If the pollsters look at these numbers it would be pretty obvious who’ll win. The bottom line though is that these campaigns are taking hold of social media and not letting go. While it seems McCain is grabbing Google’s searches Obama is utilizing the social media outlets. So, with just over 30 days it doesn’t look like its going to slow down. What experiences have you had in the social media’s or just overall web surfing where you’ve noticed a candidates ad or influence?
