How do you install the file? I see several people say to hold the Shift key and click Update button but this does not work for me. Should it be hold Shift key and click the Restore button instead?

On my mac keyboard I held the OPTION key and then pushed the Update button. It’s updating now…

For Macs, you hold Option instead of Shift.

Does this work on a windows pc because I heard that people were having trouble updating on a pc but not a mac? I just want to make sure because I really don’t want my ipod to break.

I’m sorry for all of my mistakes in giving my apple customers heart attacks and heart aches. I will be stepping down since I am a dumbass effective after I figure this stupid apple server error thing. My bad.

I downloaded it, but it downloaded into a folder, and when I do option+click on update, it opens the window to select the file, but as I click on the file, it just opens to another folder with more folders inside. What did I do wrong?

PS: I’m on a mac.

I used shift restore and that worked fine.

Ok I downloaded this version. iTunes continues to give me a error occured message (-6) or (-4). I know the servers for the store is down. but what does this have to do with the already downloaded firmware? The update clunks out after the the restore and goes back into recovery mode where it bounces me back to 1.1.4. Inaddition when I try and sync my legal January update it says error occurs for that as well. I’m going to restart maybe that will shake some bugs lose.

Also I will upload the file to a higher bandwidth site to help with the increasing amount of downloads on the link above. Cause the download speeds just keep getting slower …

maybe i could upload it in the torrent.. hey mathew want to seed with me?

okay i have found a file hosting site that will allow downloads speeds at 2 mbps yaa megabytes well that’s my max download speed anyways
Ill upload it on there it will probably take about 25-30 minutes to upload this big file I hope this works …..

My youtube button no longer works. I get an error that I need to sync with iTunes when it is connected to the internet.

you can always put the ipod in recovery mode and then itunes will do a restore on it
I doubt this will break the ipod in anyway

Changed to DL from new host went from 40 kb/sec to 1.5 MB/sec - took about 2 minutes to DL now - thanks.

I’ll still buy the official release one but this will stop me from hitting Check Update for the rest of the afternoon.

When I hold down Option and click on Update, it brings up a dialog to choose but doesn’t allow me to choose the ZIP file nor a folder!??

@chad you need to remove the “.zip” just leave it as “.ipsw”

@chad,go to the folder where you downloaded the file,click on the name till it is higlighted,then go to the end of it and del”.zip”

first i had to compress the file into a .zip then make it a ispw

but now its saying my ipod cant be updated when i click on it.

Sweet, I’m using 2.0 now with all the app goodness thanks to this page. Youtube doesn’t work, but then I rarely use it. AppStore and iTunes mobile store seems to work despite all the itunes issues with upgrades.

I am having a problem. Not sure if I am doing the install incorrectly, or whether the file is the problem. I have attempted to update the software–only to get an unknown error has occurred (1403) message. Any suggestions?

what do you mean you compressed it?
When you downloaded it the name should have ended with “.ipsw.zip”

All you needed to do was del the “.zip”

Then perform the manual upgrade,option >> update. on Itunes

OMG! It’s Done. From Start to finish is has taken nearly 2.5 hours from start downloading to just now finishing updating.

Chad had the Open safe files option ticked in Safari which uncompressed the folder. I know cause mine did the same

when i finished downloading it, and i went to go look at it,
it was just a folder.
there was no place to change .zip or anything.
so i thought i need to compress it all, and it had a .zip on that and i changed it to .ipsw

Thanks! It took about 1 hour to download at a 30-50 kbps. I just upgraded it and it works great! It deletes all of your memory though (make sure you back it up). Oh well if YouTube doesn’t work. If you really want it, get it when Apple has everything fixed
