Verizon announced that instead of going with project Android they will rather go with open source of Linux. We can expect more Linux platform cell phones from Verizon next year.

Verizon just joined LiMO foundation, just like other firms Motorola, LC, Samsung, NEC and more.

LiMo said also that they will be offering JAVA SDK and supporting widgets applications that will help better browsing and HTML JavaScript.
